An ENS name is a human-readable name ending in .eth that maps to an Ethereum address, a website, or other data. Instead of sharing a long wallet address you can share a name like alice.eth.

How much does a .eth name cost?

A .eth name with five or more characters costs $5 per year. Four-character names cost $160 per year and three-character names cost $640 per year. Prices are set in US dollars and paid in ETH, plus gas.

What happens when a .eth name expires?

After a .eth name expires there is a 90-day grace period in which the previous owner can still renew it. After the grace period the name becomes available again, and the price starts high before decaying over 21 days.

How do I renew a .eth name?

You renew a .eth name by sending a renewal transaction from the wallet that owns it. ENS names do not renew automatically, so you need to renew before the expiry date to keep the name.

What is an ENS subname?

A subname is a name issued under a parent name, such as team.project.eth under project.eth. Subnames allow a parent owner to issue many names while keeping control of the parent.

Is ENSVision an official ENS site?

No. ENSVision is an independent, non-commercial educational site. We publish guides, a glossary and references about Ethereum Name Service and are not affiliated with the ENS DAO.
